Changes to This Summary (09/19/2017)
The PDQ cancer information summaries are reviewed regularly and updated as new information becomes available. This section describes the latest changes made to this summary as of the date above.
Revised text to state that studies suggest that direct intravitreal injection of melphalan or topotecan may be effective in controlling active vitreous seeds. Also revised text to state that because of initial concerns about the potential for tumor dissemination, the use of intravitreal chemotherapy was limited. However, a review calculated that the proportion of patients with extraocular tumor spread, potentially as the result of intravitreal injection, is negligible.
This summary is written and maintained by the PDQ Pediatric Treatment Editorial Board, which is editorially independent of NCI.
