IDF call to action campaign on the occasion of the G20 leaders’ Summit
In G20 countries, diabetes affects 286 million people and generates diabetes-related healthcare costs that totaled US$572 billion in 2014.
On occasion of the G20 leaders’ Summit that will take place in Turkey the 15 and 16 of November - just one day after the WDD – IDF is calling global and local leaders to protect the health of their citizens by:
  • Adopting fiscal policies on unhealthy food, which could prevent the type 2 diabetes epidemic from growing;
  • Dedicate the revenues from those measures to improve the healthcare for people with diabetes and those at risk.
IDF will promote these messages through a social media campaign that will run from 12 to 17 November. We invite you to support this campaign by sharing the messages we will post in ourFacebook and Twitter accounts.
Global Diabetes Policy Summit, Barcelona 18-19 November2015
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF), in partnership with Primary Care Diabetes Europe (PCDE) and AstraZeneca, is hosting a Global Diabetes Policy Summit in Barcelona on 18 and 19 November 2015. Gathering healthcare professionals, policymakers and representatives from patient organisations from about 20 countries, this two-day summit will focus on the challenges facing health systems in taking early action in the field of diabetes and offer a platform to share evidence and best practice examples in support of prevention, early diagnosis and initial management of type 2 diabetes.
Day 1 of the summit will be dedicated to presentations and discussions of the challenges facing health systems in implementing prevention, early diagnosis and initial management programmes, while day 2 will consist of a series of hands-on workshops focusing on the development by delegates of what they would wish national roadmaps to look like in support of the adoption of such programmes. A follow-up Forum is planned in Berlin towards the end of 2016 to examine progress and identify next steps.
More information on the outcomes of the Summit will be shared in the next Advocacy Newsletter.
